Maya spielman of8/9/2023 “Within two years he was directing the program that he enrolled in. “When my dad got to prison, they offered him a chance to enter a rehab program, which he did,” said Spielman, who is an only child. Spielman is working with her aunt on a number of fundraisers for the school, and also recently helped her father, Michael, keep alive a drug abuse alternatives program in Sonoma County through a fundraiser driven around the proceeds from the sale of her artwork. Interestingly enough, Spielman’s aunt Lisa, who raised her, moved to San Clemente years ago to work at Saddleback College. “I like the drama, the excitement, the attention, the cameras, the makeup. “Why do I want to do a reality show so badly?” asks Spielman, 35, who was raised by an aunt in Northern California following her father’s arrest. She also has a serious desire to land a spot on a reality television series, something she’s come close to on four different occasions, even getting so far as shooting a pilot for an NBC show called “24 Hour Pass” that she did with a former boyfriend. Her life today is one of oil painting (specifically classic portraits), acting (she just finished up playing the lead female role in the “ Dial ‘M’ for Murder” play at the Cabrillo Playhouse), modeling and charity work. Spielman’s world now may not include tree dwellings and flights to South America accompanying her dad on drug deals, but it certainly is far from uninteresting. So it should come as no surprise that this child of tragedy and unspeakable hardships has crafted her life around the great escape known as art-a world where her fantasies become realities and her memories become a backdrop for a life of adventure. Johnson two doors down doesn’t fit that profile? Didn’t think so. Maya Spielman isn’t your typical Pier Bowl neighbor-unless your other neighbors were also born in a treehouse on the north shore of Kauai near the base of the Napali Coast to drug-addled parents who raised her in the wild until, at age five, her mother passed away due to drugs, and three years later, her father was nabbed at San Francisco International Airport trying to smuggle more than half-a-million dollars worth of heroin from South America.
